Stop Asking for R100 Million ($5m). You Only Need R5 Million ($250k).
The surest way to get a rejection email from a VC or any investor for that matter, is to send a pitch deck asking for R100 million to build a "World Class" mine from scratch.
You are trying to build the Cathedral when you have never even built a 1-bedroom apartment.
In the African context, capital is expensive and risk is high. No one is going to give you R100m for a Greenfields or even Brownfields project. But they might give you R5m for a Starter Pit.
What is the Starter Pit Model? Instead of designing the "Life of Mine" immediately, you design a "Proof of Concept" pit.
~ Target: A small, high-grade section of your resource (e.g., the outcrop or shallow reserve).
~ Goal: Reach cash flow in 90 days.
~ CapEx: Minimal. R3m - R10m.
Why this wins funding:
~ De-Risking: If you can mine, wash, and sell 5,000 tons a month profitably, you prove the geology, the logistics, and the market. But most importantly that you are a competent operator.
~ Valuation Leverage: Raising R100m when you have zero revenue means you sell 90% of your company. Raising R100m after you have a cash-flowing Starter Pit means you keep control and can negotiate better terms with investors.
~ Speed: You can permit and mobilize a Starter Pit in months. A mega-mine takes years and after all is said and done, there are no guarantees that you will ever get funded.

Don't tell me about the 20-year plan. Tell me how you will get the first truck out of the gate with R5 million within the next 3-6 months. And 6-months is a lot for some resources like coal, chrome etc
That having been achieved, then we can start talking about your mega mine and 100s of millions you are looking for. At this point, you may just not have only us looking to finance your project, but other more more established corporate investors.
Start small. Raise capital faster. Fail cheap. Raise again and scale better.
